Reverse Engineering with 3D Scanning

When the drawings are lost, the supplier is gone, or the part was never modelled, a 3D scan captures its geometry so you can measure it, inspect it or rebuild it.

Step 1: a precise scan

Our laser scanning mode delivers ±0.2mm accuracy and works best on mechanical parts and hard surfaces with defined edges. You receive the scan as STL and PLY meshes. Parts that are reflective, transparent or very dark can be prepared with a temporary scanning spray that evaporates after scanning.

Step 2 (optional): CAD conversion

A mesh is not an editable CAD model. Turning one into parametric CAD requires understanding design intent, which differs for every application. Without knowing that intent, the best we can do is recreate your part in Solidworks and provide a STEP file suitable for manufacturing.

Pricing for CAD conversion depends on part geometry and is agreed with you before work starts.

Verify before you rely on it

Scans are provided on a best-effort basis. Check the scan and any recreated model against the physical part before using it for critical applications. Our service disclaimer has the details.

How to start

Email photos of the part from several angles with approximate dimensions and material, and mention that you're interested in CAD conversion. We'll recommend the right scan type and send a quote. The process is: photos and quote, ship with a return label, scan, approve and pay, receive files and your part.
